Earthday 2012

Earthday 2012 was celebrated on Sunday April 22 at Fort Edmonton Park. Volunteers Christianne and Catherine McDonald, Pat Collins and Dave Burkhart tended the BLESS aquatic display, ably assisted by Katimavik volunteers. Dan Stoker rounded up the water critters in advance of the event and provided the equipment needed to put them on display.

As always the BLESS display was one of the more popular at Earth Day. A big thank you goes to the BLESS and Katimavik volunteers who gave freely of their time to help those who attended Earth Day learn about the magnitude and diversity of life found in our streams and ponds.

The Katimavik program, which has provided valuable support to non-profit community groups across Canada since 1977, could end soon due to the elimination of federal government funding so 2012 may be the last year we benefit from the help of these fine young Canadian volunteers on Earth Day.
