Springing to Life 2008Long time BLESS member Dan Stoker organized and conducted Springing to Life on April 19 and April 27 in 2008. The annual event celebrates the return migration of birds to Alberta and Big Lake. In total, 66 people turned out on both days to observe and record almost 9,000 individual birds and 44 different species. Fifteen species not seen at Big Lake so early in previous years were recorded in 2008. These included a loon, two species of grebes, two species of hawks, an eagle, shorebirds and a pileated woodpecker. Sixty different species of birds have been recorded at Big Lake over the past four years of Springing to Life. Complete list of birds observed on the two days of Springing to Life in 2008. |
